Reconnecting with the living world around us

The Club welcomed Mrs Keiran Leigh Oliver, the founder of the local charity Human Roots, to talk about its aims and the various projects it has been  undertaking.

From its allotment in Church Road, the charity has, over the past years, donated a vast amount of home grown food to needy families and OAPs etc.

The charity is also working hard with local schools, introducing children/young adults to gardening. For some young people, working alongside Human Roots’s volunteers and their teachers, this had been their first taste of  gardening and growing their own food.

Members were shown a series of “before and after photographs” as worked progressed on the allotment and  the school gardens.

Future plans were outlined and feedback was sought on what “food based projects” could be introduced at the allotment meeting place. A lively open discussion followed and the members were thanked for their ideas.
Volunteers/visitors are always welcome to visit the allotment.
